In 1897 a group of Methodist women created an organization — eventually known as Della Lamb Community Services (DLCS) — and started a childcare program for working Italian immigrant families. Few realized that it was the forerunner of the extensive Early Education/Child Care and Emergency Social Services programs we provide today.
The Emergency Social Services program, much like all Della Lamb services, is in place to provide vital and temporary supportive services for low-income children and families as they move from poverty toward self-sufficiency. We believe we must empower individuals and families to meet the challenges of daily life as they strive to achieve their full potential through opportunities in education and employment.
